Deadwood SD

Deadwood SD was established in 1876 during the Black Hills gold rush. Miners found gold in a narrow canyon, and the area became known as "Deadwood Gulch" because of the many dead trees that lined the canyon walls at the time. Some of the early town residents included Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Deadwood is the only city in the US to be named a National Historic Landmark.
